    • Melissa Rose Colar states: «i»I also remember my grandmother [Vivian Gonzales Daigre Rose] and Nanaine [Naomi Verret Lang] talking very solemnly about "Uncle Dave" Barbre. It is my understanding that he died under very suspicious circumstances in Pointe Coupée or Avoyelles parish right after my aunt Janice was born in 1958 or so. I believe that my grandmother was one of the last people to see him alive.

«b»Body of Negro Found Week After Plunge Into River«/b»
OPELOUSAS -- The body of Dave Barbre, 69, Negro of Fordoche, was found about 2 p.m. Saturday, one week after he drove his car into the Atchafalaya River, it was reported from the office of Sheriff C. J. Doucet.
Identification was made from papers found in Barbre's wallet.
Desk Sergeant Frank Derbes said the Negros body was found by employes of Texas Oil Co. in the river below the Atchafalay station in St. Martin Parish. This is approximately 25 miles from the spot where his car went under.
Barbre drove onto the ferry at Melville last Saturday at 4 a.m. When the ferry was about one-third of the way across the river, he unlocked the guard chain on the front of the ferry, started the motor of his car and drove off into the river. ### [8]
