      «b»Counsel chosen in bridge case
      By Marcia Westerfield Rogers
      Advocate Correspondent
«/b» ST. FRANCISVILLE -- The West Feliciana Police Jury named St. Francisville attorney Wilson R. Ramshur to act as special counsel in an unresolved damage claim arising out of a November 1979 incident which caused a bridge to collapse on Island Road.
The unresolved matter involves a truck driven by Lester Dobard, a contractor for Lambert Gravel Co., which collapsed a bridge on Island Road while hauling a load above the legal weight limit for the bridge, jury officials said.
District Attorney Leon A. Picou Jr. recommended appointing a special counsel because he has represented Dobard in civil matters.
The jury Tuesday authorized Ramshur to see what, if any, settlement can be made. They agreed to pay him $35 an hour office time and $50 per hour for any court time.
Repairs to the bridge have been completed and have cost the jury $15,359.54 in labor, materials and other related costs.
The jury has been seeking to have either the trucker, the gravel company or both share the costs of repairing and rebuilding the bridge. Ramshur is to make recommendations Oct. 14.
Just prior to the special meeting, the jury formed a committee and discussed several parish roads in need of work.
Gerald Smith, Bill Stuart, W.H. Van Osdell and Barrie Van Osdell, who live along Island Road, asked that something be done to prevent heavy trucks from tearing up the road. The jury agreed to look into the matter. ### [5]
