    • Letter from Robert Joseph "Bobby" Dugas to Leo and Vara Dugas:

      March 3, 1942
      Dear Leo and Vara,
What no cookies, alright for you, see if you get a picture of me in my sailor suit, so there, too.
I read that part about Gloria poking that kid and everbody enjoyed it.
These crazy Chicago fellows are crazy I think always ribbing me about Milwaukee, but not getting any place.
Yesterday I took a heavily built fellow on. Elbow to elbow to see who could bring the others wrist down. I won, man o man, I'm terrific! We stayed locked for about five minutes, before I brought his arm down, but I showed him who was the master.
There's a fellow here, who I think is nuts listen to this:
When he was working on a farm he used to eat strawberries lots & Lots of them. One day he noticed that he was always hungry. He use to eat like a horse, but was always hungry. So he went to a doctor. The dr. asked him what he ate in excess, and he says strawberries. Well they took an X-ray, which showed a tape worm. Laxatives weren't any good and he was starving meanwhile. So the doctor opens his jaws wide with clamps and holds a strawberry near his mouth. Out pops the worm for the strawberry. The second the worm gets it the dr. grabs it and starts hauling it out of his mouth. Tug o' war. Twenty five foot of it they hauled out. The end.
Now wasn't that the berries. Either he's got a good imagination or he's the biggest damn liar I ever heard.
Well I'll say goodnight. P.S. Visotors day is the 13th of March from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Tell whoever comes, if any to ask for the Hostess house.
So long & say hello to the kids.
      Apprentice Seaman Bob
