- Octavia Tenette recalls that Jeannine was the sister of Emilie CHALIGNY TENETTE, who was Bertha's mother. This follows a practice of the time, when children were reared by extended family when a parent died or was unable to provide care.
(Ed. note: Delphinia VENET (sp?) is reported in the Bossier household as Oliver's mother-in-law, which indicated that Jeannine's maiden name was NOT Chaligny.)

«i»Bertha Tenette Cook on Sunday, April 14, 1985 at 8 o'clock a.m. Beloved wife of James O. Cook. Step-mother of V. J. Cook, Sr. Daughter of the late Paul Arthur Tenette and Emelie Marie Chaligny Tenette. Also survived by many other relatives and devoted friends. (A parishioner of St. Monica Church.)
Rleative and friend and neighbors of the deceased are invited to attend the funeral services from Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip St. on Wednesday, April 17, 1985 at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1210 Gov. Nicholls St with Reverend Michael J. Fritzen, SVD, as celebrant at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 Mausoleum. No wake. Visitation in the Chapel of the Roses of the Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. to funeral time.«/i»

- According to the Tenette Family History, Bertha's mother died when she was three months old and her father died while she was still quite young. She was reared by her godmother, Jeanne Vinet Bossier Bernard, a niece of her mother's. She spent her teen years in Tuskegee, Alabama, with her brother Louis, where she attended Tuskegee Institute High School. She vividly remembered Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver, both of whom were teachers at the Tuskegee Institute. [16]
