- He was a part of the force that landed on Saipan on 16 Jun 1944. During the months of July and August, the 27th cleaned out isolated pockets of Japanese resistance in the mountains and cliffs of Saipan.

James Zettek
James Zettek, 79, a 47-year resident of Stickney was pronounced dead on arrival Monday (July 21, 1997) in the emergency room of MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn following a long illness.
Services are at 11 a.m. today in Mount Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 Oak Park Ave. Interment will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Stickney.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service today.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Zettek was a railroad maintenance worker. He was a member of the Stickney Post American Legion.
Mr. Zettek served in the Army during World War II. He was an "avid" fisherman and tomato grower, family members said.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, and two sisters, Eleanore Reid and Pat Matas.
