      «/i»
NEW ORLEANIAN FINDS BROTHERS AFTER 54 YEARS
William Harris, 59-year-old engineer, 2958 Toledano Street, returned Tuesday from Houston after being reunited with two brothers he had not seen in 54 years and had given up for dead.

The reunion came about quite by accident. Mr. Harris' daughter, Mrs. Roy Lomax, was spending her honeymoon in Houston when she heard of the existence of the long-ost brothers, Albert and Ernest Dobard, natives of New Orleans.

"When my father was just five days old," mrs. Lomax said, "his mother died. His father left him with an aunt and, taking the two older brothers, headed for Texas.

"Five years later he returned for my father but the aunt refused to give him up. She changed his name to Harris."

Mrs. Lomax said in later years, however, her father learned from cousins that his name was really Dobard. He began a search for the missing brothers. In 1920 he heard one of them had been killed and because he could find no trace of either believed they were both dead.

"Someone once told me there were some Dobards living in Houston," Mrs. Lomax said. "So when I went there on my honeymoon I looked them up in the phone book. Imagine my surprise when I found out both brothers were alive and had given my father up for dead."

the daughter said she immediately sent for her father and the three brothers were reunited in Houston.

"When I got off the train," Mr. Harris said, "I couldn't recognize them. Of course they were strangers to me. And yet, it's a funny thing. After visiting with them the strangeness wore off and there was a wonderful feeling of kinship." ###

«i»Cutline of accompanying photo of Harris and daughter: «/i»William Harris, a New Orleans engineer, was at peace with the world Tuesday--he had been reunited with his two brothers whom he hadn't seen in 54 years. Mr. Harris saw the brothers in Houston, Tex., where they were located by his daughter, Mrs. Roy Lomax, while she was on a wedding trip. [1]

    • According to the 1910 census, Elena is identified as a widow who was married in 1902. We know, though, that at this time her husband, William HARRIS, is living in the city with his second wife and two children. Considering the times, it may have been prudent to identify herself as a widow rather than a divorced Catholic. [11]
