    • Louise Dobard is identified in an article in The (New Orleans) Herald as one of many children awarded a blue ribbon for having made a home garden. The article reads in part:

      «/b» McDonogh No 5 School was awarded first prize Friday, May 21st, by the Nature Study Club of the Normal School for the most attractive school grounds in New Orleans. The prize awarded was a pedestal and large jardeniere containing a handsome Boston fern.
      Much credit is due the boys and girls of McDonogh 5 for their active interest in gardening. These children have spaded flower beds, trimmed the hedge, and wheeled many barrows of sand and fertilizer for square in the eorts to improve thir school grounds; and it is gratifying to parents, teachers and friends that the results attained by the children in their garden endeavor have been such as to win for them recognition and congratulations from the committee, superintendents and others interested in this worthy movement.
